“The Hidden Power of Nature: Secrets of Iranian Medicinal Plants Against Drought and Global Wealth”

In today’s world, where drought and water shortages have created major challenges, planting medicinal plants is the best income-generating opportunity for farmers and different segments of society. This field is not only compatible with low water consumption, but also has huge economic potential. To succeed on this path, several key steps are required:
1. Production of high-quality seeds and seedlings: by leading knowledge-based companies, so that the best plant varieties are available.
2. Training farmers: in methods of planting, keeping and harvesting medicinal plants for maximum yield.
3. Establishment of specialized towns: for the production, processing and standardization of medicinal plants.
4. Presence in global markets: Participation in exhibitions in target countries and planning to gain a greater share of the international market.

Iran, an exceptional land with a top ranking in plant richness and biodiversity! The country has 11 of the world’s 13 climates, and according to botanists, about 8,000 plant species grow there – twice the diversity of the European continent! More than 2,300 species of these plants have medicinal, aromatic, spicy and cosmetic-hygienic properties. More interestingly, 1,728 species are native and unique to Iran, and 85% of them are found in Isfahan province. This natural treasure has created an exclusive opportunity for us.

Now let’s look at the global market: the volume of trade in medicinal plants rose from $60 billion in 1996 to $100 billion in 2010. But growth continues – according to recent reports, the global market for herbal medicines was worth about $233 billion in 2024 and is expected to reach $437 billion by 2032. The World Bank and FAO have predicted that by 2030-2050, the turnover of this market will reach tens of billions of dollars. In developed countries, traditional medicine plays a key role: for example, in China, 40% of health-treatment services are based on traditional medicine. Full insurance coverage in Japan, China, Korea, and Vietnam, and support in Germany, Australia, Norway, the UK, Canada, and the US demonstrate the global importance of this field.

Given the explosive growth of global trade in medicinal plants, Iran’s rich history in traditional medicine (from Avicenna to the present), and the prioritization of medicinal plants in the country’s comprehensive scientific map (Priority A in basic sciences and traditional medicine Priority B in health), the need for a comprehensive scientific document is felt more than ever. This document is a guide to the revival and development of medicinal plants and traditional medicine in Iran – by intelligently utilizing national resources, to achieve regional and global leadership.
